Learning through the pages of this book, the succession of photographs from the Twenties of the previos century until the present day induces one to reflect on how much cars have changed! And with the background of sporting exploits illustrated by the photographs, we can also see how the evolution of the automobile has been accompanied by that of the Monza autodrome and its facilities.
From pre-war pits that were simple wooden shelters at the side of the track to the spacious rooms of today, in a modern steel and glass building of tremendous lightness and elegance. And it has been this ability to renew itself that has made the Monza autodrome great. Because it has been able to continue to be a place of challenge among drivers and the most modern, sophisticated machines, cars and motorcycles. It is for that reason such fundamental and unforgettable pages have been written on motor sport a Monza.
The task of us administrators of the autodrome is to ensure that even more fine pages continue to be written in the future. But not only that. The autodrome must extend its social functions even further, also putting, as it does already, its facilities at the disposal of activities and meetings that exalt motor sports.
The autodrome is to be found in the extraordinary surroundings of Monza Park, with which it has lived side by side for 80 years. It is not a artifical and extraneous structure, but a living and vital part in a symbiosis of values – sporting, environmental, cultural, technical – which make up an entity that can never be equalled.
