Mark & Gordon,
I'd like to do some more research but I believe a "Driving Park" refers to a harness horse track. To race in a sulky race was, and still is, considered as driving.
The Fort Wayne Driving Park (IN) was built as a horse track in 1890. That is long before autos became popular.
The Glenville Driving Track (Cleveland, OH) held it's first auto race in 1897. It was a former harness track that was built in 1870.
The Rochester Driving Park (NY) ran autos as early as 1898.
Each of the following were known as Driving Parks, and all held auto races much later than the early 1900's
The Beatrice Fairgrounds (NE) ran autos in 1922. It was known as a Driving Park
Mon City Speedway (PA) started running auto races in 1922. Before that, it was used as a horse track known as the Monongahela Driving Park.
The Dawson Fairgrounds (PA) ran autos in 1926. It was also known as the Dawson Driving Park.
The Carmel Race Track (NY) ran auto in 1929 to 1941. It was originally a harness track. It was known as the Putnam County Driving Park
The Northampton Fairgrounds (OH) ran in the 1930's. It was known as a Driving Park
